Lichfield Arts have announced that this years patron of L2F, The Lichfield Festival of Folk, is none other than the internationally acclaimed John Tams.
John Tams described by Mojo as ‘one of the ultimate British songwriters’ has had a career spanning four decades in every medium. A member of the Albion Band and Home Service he is perhaps best known for his work at the National Theatre and as Rifleman Daniel Hagman in the Sharpe television series.
He is a five times winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. John has written music for the recent TV series Jericho and the stage version of Warhorse, and he also acted as special advisor to Steven Spielberg for the film version.
John has sent this message to L2F Festival goers:
“Lichfield – City of Enlightenment – Darwin, Dr Johnson, The Lunar Society, Watt and Wedgewood and I’m invested Patron of L2F – What a history, what a city, what an honour! I’m immensely flattered and I will do all I can to justify the Festival’s commitment to me and I offer mine to you.
“Who Shares Wins” epitomises the team behind your Festival and we should pay them full tribute. Undertaking all the off stage “invisible” planning, fund raising and production is a mighty task driven by the shared love of folk, roots, song and dance in all its forms, traditional and contemporary and delivered here together now for you – to share.
This is the Enlightenment City with an Enlightening Festival – may it shine on you.
Thine, Dr. John Tams
